The Tanzania Association of the Deaf (CHAVITA) has greatly benefited from the “FUTA DELETE KABISA” campaign launched by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) held at National level in Singida Region.
This campaign aims at educating the public on the importance of avoiding the spread of false information, how to identify misleading content, and to promote safe internet usage. CHAVITA members were able to participate actively through sign language interpretation, which enhanced inclusive education for the deaf community.
During the celebrations, CHAVITA members were taught the best practices for ignoring and deleting false, insightful, or misleading messages instead of sharing them. They also learned how to identify fake information by referring to official news sources, using credible media, and analyzing the language used—such as exaggerated tone, emotional language, grammatical errors, or unrealistic statistics.
The campaign also emphasized the serious consequences of spreading false information—for both the sender and the recipient. For the sender, the law can impose penalties including imprisonment, fines, or both. For recipients, false information can cause panic, spark conflict, and ultimately disrupt social peace. This highlighted the responsibility of every individual to verify information before sharing it with others.
Speaking at the climax of the event, the TCRA Manager reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to working with CHAVITA to ensure inclusive communication education reaches everyone, aiming to build an equal society in terms of access to information and communication.
CHAVITA leaders and other stakeholders—including Mr. Edwald Patory, Mr. Jeremiah Nkinda Deus, and Ms. Gloria Mathias—praised the campaign, saying that “FUTA DELETE KABISA” has empowered their members with the ability to critically assess information, eliminate communication barriers, and confidently participate in the digital economy.
Overall, the campaign has strengthened the national goal of building a safe and well-informed digital society. TCRA urges all Tanzanians to refrain from sharing false information and to ensure that all information they receive is verified through proper channels before passing it on to others.
The campaign was presented by TCRA’s Manager for Consumer and Customer Affairs, Engineer Kadaya Baluhye, alongside his team which included ICT Officer Shedrak Justine and Communications Museum Curator Ms. Jasmine Kiyungi. The campaign was part of the ongoing celebrations of the International Week of the Deaf, held at the VETA college in Singida from September 22 to 27, 2025.
